The Windy City:
Earlier this month, I took my very first trip to Chicago, to visit family, friends and of course, the restaurants. I was so happy to venture out to Chi-Town to see what the fuss was all about and let me tell you–I was impressed!
The first place I went to was Davanti Enoteca (http://davantichicago.com/) . This little place is in the little Italy part of the city, and BOY what a find! They have a great wine list that they sell retail and charge you a $7.00 corkage fee. WHAT A DEAL! I started with a Pate Vasi (explain what it was…..)delicious. Next we shared an Escarole-Apple Salad (what’s in it??) YUM YUM not to mention refreshing in the humidity! Next, we split a Paccheri con Salsicca( Rigatoni with meat sauce). I recommend this establishment highly.
Even though its the “it” place now, we went during an off hour, something I recommend, so you can guarantee being seated.
For dinner I tried a old standby Gibson’s(http://www.gibsonssteakhouse.com/) This place rocked and was everything it lived up to be. We split a tomato sweet onion salad, followed by a Chicago Cut steak( Bone in Rib Eye) served with a side of spinach and mushrooms and a bottle of Joel Gott Cabernet for only $41.00. For all you steak lovers I recommend this place highly. They even brought us a slice of the biggest apple pie I’ve ever seen.
For Breakfast we tried a Tavern on Rush street(http://www.tavernonrush.com/) This is a great place to sit outside and people watch and breakfast for 2 under $30.00– what a deal!
For all of you foodies in the world Chicago is a place to eat, wine and dine.
